Born February 22, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts, Senator Ted Kennedy is one of the longest serving members of the Senate. Assuming office November 6, 1962 Ted Kennedy, or Edward Moore Kennedy, is Democrat with liberal views. Brother of both President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy, Ted Kennedy's life has been surrounded with tradgedy. The most famous occured in 1969 in Chappaquiddick. Ted Kennedy drove his vehicle off a bridge into a lake, he manged to escape, but his campaign worked Mary Jo Kopechne didn't. Scandal errupted around this incident. Ted chose to go back to the party and talk to his lawyer aswell as Kopechne's parents before going to police. Kennedy has made multiple presidential bids during his political career: 1980 and 2004.
Announced November 28th 2007, Ted Kennedy auctioned the rights to his memoir for $8 million to the publishing company Twelve. Not expected to be published until 2010, little information is known in regards to content or even title, so for the time being it is known as Ted Kennedy's Memoirs. The book is hoped to contain candid reflections of Chappaquiddick and his presidential bid.
No Child Left Behind
Kennedy helped pass No Child Left Behind Act in 2001 with opposition from both parties. This act increases education standards, but also gives the contact information of every student to the military.
Immigration
Ted Kennedy supports document and undocumented immigrants alike. He is the high raning Democrat on the Senate Committee on Immigration.
Alternative Energy
Although a supporter of alternative energy Kennedy opposes the Cape Wind Project, some suspect only because it is located in his own backyard.
War on Terrorism
A supporter of the 2001 mission to overthrow the Taliban in Afghanistan, Ted Kennedy know strongly opposes the War in Iraq.
Same Sex Marriage
Senator Ted Kennedy is one of the few senators to support same sex marriage, he is also the senator of the only state in which it is legal.
